Teach — compare, do not just list
13 min- Take the desert. Describe it in two features.
- Compare each with here: drier, hotter.
- Do the far north the same way.
- Find each on the globe.
- Say the Grade 1 addition: describing a place means saying what it is unlike as well as what it is.

What goes wrong, and why
Each of these is a reasoning error rather than carelessness. The fix addresses the reasoning.
Describes a region only by its animals.
Why: Animals are memorable.
Fix: Ask about the ground and the rain. Animals live there because of those.
Thinks a region is a country.
Why: Both are areas.
Fix: Show a desert crossing several countries.
Describes without comparing.
Why: Listing is easier.
Fix: Always finish with 'than here'.
