5 min- Describe the pond drying out each summer and ask which living things lose out.
- Take the tadpoles and the dragonflies.
Teach — restore what, at what cost
14 min- Name what changed: the pond holds no water by July.
- Name who is affected: tadpoles that need water to become frogs.
- Propose a solution: deepen it, or shade it, or top it up.
- Ask for each what it restores and what it costs.
- Say the standard's word: merit. A claim about merit weighs both.
- Show a solution that helps one organism and harms another.

Investigate — judge three solutions
19 min- Groups take one environmental change and three proposed solutions.
- For each they write what it restores and what it costs.
- They rank the three and justify the top one.
- They name one living thing each solution does not help.
