How do I know whether the lesson worked?

The exit ticket asks: “Draw a rectangle. Split it into 6 equal parts and shade 1. Write the fraction. Then explain what the 6 tells you.” 1/6 with an explanation naming six equal parts. Visibly unequal parts with the label 1/6 is the equality misconception and is worth catching now — it becomes very expensive during equivalence work in Grade 4. That tells you whether the class needs a reteach or a thirty-second conversation before you plan tomorrow.
